Walton Cemetery, Grand Traverse County Michigan

This entry is part 57 of 60 in the series Cemeteries

This cemetery is just west of US 131, about 2 20 miles south of Kalkaska. Walton Junction is a ghost town, little remains of the once thriving logging community. I consulted a book of cemetery transcriptions at the library in Kalkaska, which listed lot

A lot was listed on the index as that of containing burials for Zachariah C. Smith and his wife Harriet Filson Smith. No stones visible, but this planter on the lot.

Lot 3 was indexed as containing burials for several Smith family members, including Zachariah C. Smith and his wife Harriet Filson Smith. No stones visible, but this planter on the lot. Zachariah and Harriet were the parents of Hiram Smith.

Just to clarify that the walton junction cemetery is about 20 miles south of Kalkaska off of 131/113 on old union street now Union street next to the Walton Marsh which happens to be behind my house. It is also in Grand Traverse County not kalkaska county.

  1. Thank you, Allen.
