There are a bunch of options for bluegrass in the D this weekend. After careful consideration, Papa and I have decieded to head down to the Huron Valley Eagles and see B0 and John and ’em. We’ve seen Bo sing quite a bit, but this will be the first time we’ve seen this group. Bo is a powerful singer, and a great showman.
But the bonus with this new group is John Rigsby. He’s a lesser known cousin of Don, and John has played with the best, and is the best. I’m a sure-enough John Rigsby fan. He’s an awesome fiddle and mandolin player. But the thing is, no one ever mentions his singing. I’m maybe because he has sung so much harmony no one has heard him.
I’m not the only one on board for this group, Ken Irwin at Rounder Records doesn’t make many mistakes. You can count up bluegrass, country and Americana awards that Rounder’s artists have garnered and figure that out.
Check this out, and also take note of Jack Hicks on the old banjo. He’s creative, and he’s fun, and he can play that thing.
So, lets hope the snow is minimal, and we’ll see you at the Eagles Saturday!
