How Many Deer?

Yesterday morning I needed to get to JoAnn Fabric and get some deals. I was so eager, I arrived before the place opened. On the way back, right here, three deer ran in front of my car. Well, two ran in front of it. I got the other one. This happened in a spot two blocks from my house, where I’ve never seen deer before.

Now, I know there are plenty of deer around here, in fact I once posted a photo of one in the yard next door. I’ve seen tracks in my (fenced) garden. There is a spot a couple of miles west of here where deer cross the road frequently, and we always drive sloooooowly there.

But, it was real dark, earlier than we usually see deer along the road. I guess it’s too dark to see them at 6:10 a.m.

I didn’t have my phone, so I drove home and got it, and Papa. We went back, and called the police. They came, they saw, they were unimpressed. The young lady officer was surprised shocked when I insisted on taking the deer. Let’s just say that coffee break time at the station won’t be the same for a few days, rather than try to describe her reaction. Anyway, when the report was complete, Papa and I grabbed the deer, threw it in the trunk, drove two blocks home, and hung the darn thing up.

Here’s the car.

I’ll be busy today. Something about freezer wrap, knives and grinders. We’ll be having venison for our family Christmas next Saturday.

So, the answer to the question, “How many deer are there in the suburbs?” is: ONE FEWER.

Does anyone know a good junk yard where I can get a headlight and fender for an old Neon?

She was shocked that you were taking the deer? Here they are surprised if you don’t! Sorry about your car though.

Well, we have 97, 000 miles on that car, and we paid a very little for it when it had 10,000. It has it’s share of problems, but I could drive it around town. It had just “no-fault” insurance, no collision, so I’ll have to decide whether to fix it or what. For now we’ll pull the insurance off and I’ll drive my van. The wildest idea around here is to trade it in. Imagine, trade it in…. Hmmm.

BTW the meat is all good, nothing hurt at all. The darn think had a couple of inches of fat in the back, amazing. They weren’t like that “UP North” where I come from.

    I think the deer lost.

I lived here (in the country) 16 years before I had even a close call-so I hit it. Six point buck-took out the whole front end. Hit him square and he did a front “hand” spring, worthy of a 10. I closed my eyes but the kids said it was amazing. He was “junk”. I had the car on the waiting list-because around here that’s what you get on when you want to fix it. Before I could get it fixed-I hit the “terrorist” deer….He exploded. Finished most of the front end but I did manage to drive home by “candle light”. The class in the lights were smashed and the bulbs managed to stay lit-but it was a dark drive home. We did have to have another estimate and after it was fixed-looked good. Bekah’s driving it-1995 Grand Prix. Glad you’re okay!

Well, at least you will have meat for the winter! We drove up to Traverse
City this morning for just a quick couple of things. We headed home
about 2:30pm and got into really bad weather and slippery roads. Just north of Buckley, we started spinning around the road in our PT Cruiser.
We must have taken about 3 totally around spins and we hit the guard rail a couple of times. Luckily no one was in front or close in back of us. We
ended up in the middle of the road and heading South towards home so we kept on going but we have lots of damage in front and in back of
that old car! Glad you are ok and that we are, too! 🙂

Try Duck tape for the light! – It fixes everything!
Glad you made it out ok!

Well, Boj, I need a few wins.

Thanks, Kathy, I’m fine, but a little stiff, I didn’t see them till I hit the one, but I must have jerked, or the car did, or both.

Glenna, glad you weren’t hurt. Nothing like slippery roads. I hate spinning cars, absolutely hate them.

    Thanks, all.

Glad you’re okay! You too Glenna! You girls sure know how to spice things up!!!
