I spent much of yesterday watching the inauguration and other proceedings on the TV yesterday. I suprised at myself, I’m not a TV person. For whatever reason, I was drawn like a bee to honey. It took me about 5 minutes to switch from the local NBC affiliate to CSPAN. The jabber, jabber, jabber on NBC was killing me. I didn’t want to hear what the commentators thought happened, or what they thought it meant, I wanted to see for myself. CSPAN served that purpose very well, I was able to see and was not distracted. I wonder how long TV coverage like that which I found on NBC will hold up; it seemed quaint and dated to me.
So, after spending much of a day watching the inauguration and the parade, what do I think? President Obama is a good communicator; and he has vision. He and his wife appeared to be very much a couple, and in love. Their daughters are chips off the old block, so to speak. I public situations Papa and I often see children and their parents; and one of us often says to the other, “Funny how the little ones sure look like the big ones.” In the case of the Obamas, it is a fact. Oh yes, and I like classic clothing styles. It was nice to see little girls dressed like little girls, not carbon copies of teens or adults.
I was interested when I heard that the President’s website had been changed, so I jumped over there and looked around. The lone post on the new blog said, in part:
“One of the first changes is the White House’s new website, which will serve as a place for the President and his administration to connect with the rest of the nation and the world.”
I’m interested in the use of the internet to communicate, although I acknowledge that it can be a one-sided type of communication. I’ll be adding that blog to my reader and watching how this effort develops.
The stakes are high, the problems many, and the solutions complicated. I’m hoping for positive actions which improve the ecomonic outlook for all Americans.
