Erastus G. Fellows was born, calculating from known records of his life, about 1835 in Ohio or New York.
Fellows was a resident of a resident of Bloom Township, Seneca County, Ohio, age 15, enumerated in the home of Peter J. Smith according to the census of 1850. Also in the Smith home were Julian Fellows age 13, a female, and Joel Fellows, 27, male.
Fellows was a resident of Newaygo County, Michigan by 25 December 1856 when he married Mary C. Scofield at the home of her father, Henry, in Fremont, Newaygo County, Michigan.
He purchased land in Ashland township, Newaygo County on 1 July 1859, and was enumerated in that township in the census of 1860. His household included his wife and one son, Henry age 1.
Fellows entered the army during the Civil War, Company D., 9th Michigan Infantry on 4 October 1864 in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He died at ” Hospital No. 3″ at Lookout Mountain, Tennessee on March 15, 1865 according to his military and pension records. Private Fellows is buried at the Chattanooga National Cemetery in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Here are a some of photos of the cemetery, which we took when we visited.

Erastus and Mary had three children, Henry born 3 August 1858; Joel B., born 9 Oct 1860; and Edwin, 2 June 1863-25 Aug 1864.
