Winter in Michigan

It’s cooled off, some days are even cold!  I’ve been enjoying  the chance to go out and scrape snow off the drive.  There hasn’t been a lot, but there is something about spending 15 or 20 minutes outside that makes the house seem warmer. For the record, we didn’t go to the auto show at …

Grandma, I need a …..

The phone rang last night, and Papa said it was for me.  I answered, and D2 told me that GD1 needed to talk to me.  She is the 4 ½ year old, and she first visited us by herself when she was about 18 months old.  We’re buddies, but she’s growing up, and I’m not. …

Early Friday

Today is an early Friday for Granny.  If I just had everything done.  D1 and GS2 are leaving at noon, to go to the Great Lakes Navel Training Center for GS1’s basic graduation.  They are joining up with D2 and her family on the way.  Papa and I have some other plans for the weekend, …

We’ve Got Work To Do

We have a small collection of toys that have been used by my “little” grandchildren during their visits for the past few years.  Some were purchased at yard sales and discount stores.  But, the best two toys were given to me.  A lady with a maturing family posted about “two large bags of toys” that …

Looking Back

I was just cleaning the food off my floor, and thinking of the past years.  Strange, huh?  GS1, his mother, and his brother came to live here about 11 years ago.  He was thin, cute and smart.  (Grandma’s talking.)  We watched him play football and do some other activities.  I did a lot of wash, …

Memories From the Visit

2 ½ year old granddaughter’s alligator tears when I didn’t want to let her “watch”.  As in, “I want to watch, please.”  Anything, a Dora video, a “show” on TV, anything.  The look on a mother’s face at the Science Center.  GD2 (above) was building a tower.  She accompanies every activity with paragraphs of explanation.  …

Bad Cold

My young granddaughters were sniffling,  and from that I caught a whopper of a cold.  I slept in my chair at least part of the last two nights.  I’m not better, it actually seems worse.  No fever, just a bad cold.  Yck!

The New Detroit Science Center

Granny had fun yesterday.  We went to the New Detroit Science Center.  It was our first trip to this great museum, but it won’t be the last.  D3 came with us, she is known as Aunt J to the little kids.  We were a party of 5, with varying shades of red hair, from Aunt …

Fun Zone

I retrieved my “little grandchildren” yesterday.  That’s GS3 and GD1 and GD2.  They are 7, 4, and 2, considerably younger than GS1 and GS2, brothers who have lived here with their Mother, D1 for a few years.  GS3 has this week off school, a happy thing.  He can’t come as often as the girls, since …

Watch out for the Stool

Granddaughter 2 is a lovely child, about 2-1/2 years old.  She is heavily influenced by living in a home filled with words, books and 2 older siblings.  Never, not even in her first months, was she satisfied to be little, younger, less able unable.  She has simply grown up reaching for tasks that are normally …
