Belle’s Box – 121

This entry is part 123 of 342 in the series Belle's Box

Read about this series of posts, regarding items in a box originally owned by Belle (Lamunion) Fellows Tinker here. The cast of characters is located here. And, there is an accounting of people about whom I have little information here.

This card has a photo on it, and the trees are even a little green. You can feel the paint, or whatever was put on it to color it.

(written on the left margin) E Carter.

Camp meetings were a big deal, I’ve heard my share of stories regarding them. There are still some camp meeting grounds in Michigan, but usually you see travel trailers and motor homes.

Emily Lamunion Carter was Belle’s sister. Bert may be one of Andrew Carter’s nephews, Albertio R (Bert) Carter, about 1878 – . He was the son of William Wallace Carter, Andrew’s brother and his wife Hannah Louisa Cox.

Some of my letters mention “going to meeting” and a couple mentioned “camp meeting”. I’ve assumed that meeting just referred to church but I’d love to know which denomination. I wonder if camp meetings were a precursor to the church camps we have around here?

  1. Hard to know, unless there is someone who knows or remembers. Sometimes the history of the camp records it’s origins. Thanks for the comment.
