Granny Tells You What's Going On

Mamma Must Have Let Him In

You know about earworms, don’t you? I have one right now, and I’m going to blame John, who posted a couple of Buck Owens YouTube Videos on Facebook yesterday. Since I am never content with just a taste, I headed over to YouTube and caught a earworm that is particularly bad news.

But, before I pass this affliction on to you, here is a little about it:

“The study also showed that musicians and those with compulsive tendencies are the most afflicted. The two are not necessarily mutually exclusive, though the act of repetition — in popular songs on the radio and on the rehearsal floor for musicians — plays a roll….”

You can also read about it on Wikipedia, if you need to know more.

To me, the most interesting part of any of the descriptions the part about “compulsive tendencies”. Whenever I hear the compulsive word one I think of my family, and me. Chocolate, diet coke, neatly folded anything– you get the idea. Just a little disclaimer here, I am as far from a musician as anyone who loves music can be. I can play a few chords on a ukulele, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star on the fiddle, and the radio. I am truly best at the radio, and I love to sing with it. I remember Twinkle as the first fiddle lesson song, so you know how far I got on that little venture.

So, back to the earworm. I clicked on over to YouTube after watching a couple of the videos John posted, and found that a bunch of people had ripped CD’s or tapes of good old Buck and made slide shows to the music. Of course, the most entertaining of those was the the one we all remember most from the Christmas season, Santa Looked a Lot Like Daddy.

I got that song running through my head, and it is still there. It is mostly the chorus, especially the part that goes, “It’s not the way I had him pict-chored… Santa wasa much too thin…” Something about it, memories from when the kids were little, Hee Haw on TV, and Buck’s head bobbing through every song.

I worked on some land deed transcriptions later last evening, and lost the tune. But, I checked Fb again this morning, and Monica (thanks, dear) had posted that she has the CD with that song on it. Back came the tune, and it may keep me harnessed again today. It could be worse. I sure wish there was a video posted of Buck singing this gem, but apparently no one had posted one. So just listen and close your eyes.

You should be so glad your earworm had nothing to do with going “with a name you know.” I had that evil beast grinding its way through my head for about two weeks straight. And I assure you, I will never, EVER go with that name, for that very reason!
