Granny Tells You What's Going On

New Trellis

You might remember that Papa built me a new trellis this year. I really needed it, after the collapse of 2008.

I have been watching the ascent of the Morning Glories all summer, they seem to grow a few inches each day.

Yesterday, it looked like this:

The most interesting thing to me is the volunteers that I have all over the back yard. I’ve pulled a zillion, but they keep on coming. These are in the rock bed under the trellis. I pull them all the time, and they keep coming back up.

These are down the bed toward the wall. They have grown up an unused shepherd’s hook, and up one of Papa’s lawn ornaments.

You can hardly see the bird, and it doesn’t turn anymore!

The seeds must have scattered last fall, I can’t bring myself to pull them out now, they are so pretty.

Yours are way ahead of mine! I love the trellis. I didn’t get any morning glory volunteers but I have dozens (hundreds?) of others that I just can’t bring myself to pull. I have other plants that need moving but they’re blooming and I don’t want to disrupt the show so I wait.

Your morning glorys are so pretty! Although wild ones grow around my area-I’ve never had luck in planting them. They never come up. Wish they did-like yours.

Tipper, I don’t know what a wild morning glory would be. I guess it is too cold here. I start them inside, but I’m sure I wouldn’t need to.

Apple, everything volunteers here. I’ve pulled tomatoes out of the roses, the beans, the carrots, and interestingly enough, out of the tomato patch. We are very lucky to have such good ground.
